Overview

The mission of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts of Michigan Technological University is to integrate the arts into the total University and community experience. The department offers avenues for artistic expression in the visual arts, music, and theatre for students, faculty, staff, and community members, and provides opportunites to experience the arts through workshops, performances, and exhibitions. Students are exposed to broad-based, academic and intuitive approaches to creative processes and innovation in the visual arts, music, and theatre through courses in the areas of appreciation, history, and theory, and they are provided with opportunities to develop as practicing creative artists in musical ensembles, theatrical productions, and art studios.
